Breach of contract When one party does not carry out what was agreed in the contract.

Breach of a legal duty of care When a person carrying out an activity falls to take the standards of care which were expected.

Case management The judge is the active manager of the litigation.

Civil liability A person is potentially responsible for the wrong done to somebody else. Payment of damages is the likely result of a civil liability case.

Contract An agreement between 2 or more parties

Litigation A judicial proceeding

Pre-trial settlement Parties come to an agreement before a trial takes place.

Proceeding A legal action. When a case is brought to court.

Tort A wrong committed by one person against another.

Tort law Deals with situations where a person’s behaviour has caused harm to somebody else. The claimant is entitled to obtain compensation for the harm done,
